The latest from the Agapé Summer Projects…
In Russia...
We're back from British camp now and re-connected to the internet after six crazy days in the countryside by the Finnish gulf. We started with speed-befriending and a quiz in order to get to know everyone. The morning lessons went well, stimulating discussions about Britain, stereotypes, culture and identity. The afternoon sport/film/craft sessions went well too. In the evenings we had an acoustic night; lots of Russians got involved and there was everything from Coldplay to rap. We watched 'Amazing Grace' and did a Soul Talk, which involved clips from the Matrix, as well as testimonies from our team.
On the final night we held an optional bible study on John 1, and a lot of the students turned up to engage with the passage. We finished off the week with a talent show (songs about the evil mosquitoes, and sketches about the language barrier). It was a fantastic week and we feel we've made lots of new friends with whom we can share our faith.
Now we are back in the city (in our lovely and clean, if very hot, hostel) we are holding English cafe nights for three days. Last night we watched 'Finding Nemo' and had a little discussion about it, tonight is testimonies and Soularium (a set of 50 images used to engage in spiritual discussion), and tomorrow is the Parable of the Lost Son. On Saturday we go to Peterhof, a palace with fountains, where the Russians will show us some more of their beautiful city.
Please pray for the English cafe nights, for lots of students and opportunities, and for new believers.
And the Far East...
We have two new believers in the family as of today. I look forward to sharing the full story when I'm back but just wanted to let you know so you could thinking of them in these important first few days of following Jesus. Tomorrow we will get up early to check out and go for a few days touring before we get our flight home.
